The DCLG did not pay for legal counsel after a government adviser criticised Jenny Watson – a former Audit Commission board member – in the press last year, Bob Neill has revealed.

The local government minister published a written ministerial statement on 4 March, revealing the DCLG spent no money on external legal advice following critical comments aimed at Ms Watson by a government source, quoted in a national newspaper article last September.
