Nottinghamshire CC is seeking to revive the mediaeval role of ‘parish lengthsman', under plans to give communities greater control in maintaining their surroundings.

The traditional term refers to a person responsible for a particular length of road who takes care of the weeds, grass and hedges which surround it.
