The Local Government Association (LGA) has revealed around 1,700 children are referred to social services every day, as it steps up demands for adequate funding.

With 621,880 referrals in the last financial year, the body called on ministers to alleviate one of the biggest costs pressures on councils in the Spending Review this summer.
