The Local Government Association (LGA) has hit back at Eric Pickles' threat to ban council magazines and newspapers through legislation.

The secretary of state issued a code of practice earlier this year, but several councils have continued to publish what he calls ‘town hall Pravdas' on a regular basis. Now he has threatened to put the recommendations on to a statutory footing – limiting the number which could be produced under law.
