Council chiefs have hit out at DCLG permanent secretary, Sir Bob Kerslake, for underplaying the financial challenges facing local government when giving evidence to MPs.

Speaking at the Local Government Association's (LGA's) executive meeting on 23 November, senior political figures took issue with the former Sheffield City Council chief executive for statements recently provided to the Commons local government committee.
