Councils may be asked to choose between two different versions of the Local Government Association's (LGA) new model ‘code of conduct' for elected members.
The leader of the LGA's Labour Group, Cllr David Sparks, said the LGA is expected to write to all local authorities shortly, presenting them with two drafts of the code – one of which they will have to adopt from July as part of the new standards system. ‘Sadly, there are examples of councillors who have acted improperly, and they were found to have broken the law and were imprisoned, therefore a code is essential,' Cllr Sparks said.
