LGA predicts reduced impact over town hall cuts

Council chiefs were told last week lobbying efforts by the LGA to mitigate the impact of £1bn worth of cuts appears to be making some headway.

Lobbying efforts by the Local Government Association (LGA) designed to mitigate the impact of £1bn worth of additional cuts next year appear to be making some headway, council chiefs were told last week.

Addressing the LGA Executive meeting on 22 November, Cllr Sharon White, vice-chair of the LGA Labour group, acknowledged that £250m cuts in town hall wage bills formed part of a wider public sector deficit reduction programme, and would not be recovered.
