The Local Government Association has urged Brussels to merge and simplify complex funding streams aimed at Europe's councils.

Smith Square called on the European Union to reform cash pots for local projects in line with the UK's plan for place-based budgeting, which will merge funding and devolve powers over how cash is spent to localities. Cllr Dave Wilcox, chair of the LGA's European and international board, said: ‘A confusion of funding streams makes the process of getting money from Europe far more bureaucratic and wasteful than it should be.
