A new approach to council self-regulation has been launched by the Local Government Group (LGG), following the Government's decision to scrap the Audit Commission.
Under the new plans, launched today, the LGG claims councils should be responsible for their own performance,and accountable to their own communities, rather than watchdogs and government departments.
