A blueprint for the future of local government regulation has been unveiled by the Local Government Group (LGG), following the Government’s plan to scrap the Audit Commission.

The LGG claims councils should be responsible for their own performance, and accountable to their own communities, rather than watchdogs and government departments. Managing director for Local Government Improvement and development (LGID), Rob Whiteman, told The MJ: ‘We learned to play the inspection regime well.
