Stakeholders in the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) have set up a working group to develop a formal pension board by April 2014.
Establishment of the board, which would be able to address issues affecting all 89 funds in England and Wales, was a cornerstone of the pensions agreement brokered by the Local Government Association and trade unions last year. Following a first meeting held on 20 December, a shadow board is planned for this spring, and will be responsible for overseeing creation of the formal board.
