LGR and the ominous signs for cross-council working

Whether or not counties decide to legally challenge proposals, they are likely now to engage less with the process, writes Paul Marinko.

The Government will have hoped its decision on reorganisation in Devolution Priority Programme areas ended the council battles – in these areas at least – over the future shape and size of new councils. No such luck.

But now the real work of getting services ready, so fledgling unitaries are ready to open their doors to the public on 1 April 2028, begins.
