Few areas expose the dual complexity and opportunity of local government reorganisation (LGR) more clearly than the quest for financial systems alignment. There is a real urgency to begin planning now. It can seem overwhelming with challenges around audit maturity, governance, risk alignment and harmonising multiple systems, suppliers and contracts. Yet, handled well, it's a rare chance to reset finance functions to be more transparent, consistent and resilient for the long term.
