Liberal Democrats on Bedfordshire CC have called an extraordinary meeting to discuss the legal challenge against Bedford BC's unitary status. Group leader, Cllr Peter Blaine, believes the judicial review has little chance of success, and a motion urging councillors not to support it will be debated at the meeting on 5 September. District councils in Durham have seized on a series of Audit Commission reports as fresh ammunition in the unitary war. The reports examined how well Durham City Council, as well as Teesdale and Wear Valley DCs, were improving economic prosperity. The commission found that all the district councils and Durham CC delivered good local regeneration projects. Durham districts forum chairman, Cllr Richard Betton, said the reports were ‘timely' and added the report for Teesdale DC highlighted problems with funding and regeneration strategy for the whole county.
