Lib Dem leader Sir ~Menzies Campbell~ has pledged to win ‘more votes, more councillors and control of more councils' at next month's local elections. Launching the Lib Dem local government manifesto on Monday (3 April), he said the party would be campaigning for a ‘safer, fairer, greener' Britain, and would replace council tax with a local income tax. The ~Conservative Party~ will not have a traditional launch in the run-up to the 4 May polls, but will instead make announcements on its plans for local government at its spring forum in Manchester this weekend. ~Labour~ were due to launch their plans yesterday.
