Anyone curious to see what local government is like on the other side of the Atlantic should check out the American sitcom Parks and Recreation, which made its debut on BBC4 last week.
For those not in the know, the comedy series stars the vision of loveliness that is Amy Poehler as middle manager Leslie Knope, who works in the parks department of the fictional town of Pawnee.
