A senior Liverpool City Council member has urged ministers to conduct an inquiry into the extension of a public contract with Enterprise Plc.

As The MJ went to press, Cllr Richard Kemp, leader of Liverpool's Liberal Democrat group, wrote to communities secretary Eric Pickles asking him to review the extension of a ‘streetscene' contract – to deliver street design services, such as traffic lights and pavements – to Enterprise. Cllr Kemp's letter reveals that, in his view, the authority ‘acted outside its own standing orders' when granting the extension and could, as a result, be ‘open to challenge by other contractors'.
