A council-backed commission has called for the creation of a ‘living wage' in Liverpool to help tackle poverty.
The Liverpool Fairness Commission said the introduction of a higher minimum wage level would help encourage economic growth and improve health standards across the city. All of the commission's members – including local business leaders, trade unions and Liverpool City Council – support the idea. ‘A Liverpool living wage would be a key way of reducing poverty, and all partners need to work together to bring this about,' said Liverpool mayor, Joe Anderson.
