A former adviser to the mayor of London has been acquitted by a jury of stealing youth scheme money. Former Tower Hamlets councillor, Kumar Murshid, accused political opponents at the London borough of making ‘disturbing' allegations with a ‘very strong political and conspiratorial element', in relation to funds belonging to the Stepney Youth Action Scheme. Mr Murshid has now been acquitted of a string of allegations, including connection to a £3m fraud investigation, during which he stood down as regeneration adviser to ~Ken Livingstone~.
