A survey has revealed local authorities slashed the number of temporary staff they hired by 15.2%.

Local authorities slashed the number of temporary staff they hired by 15.2% between the first quarter of 2011 and 2012, with younger workers bearing the brunt of spending controls – a survey has revealed.

According to the latest Comensura Government Index – which measures use of temporary labour across 79 authorities in England and Wales – the North East (-56%) experienced the biggest drop in recruitment, followed by the West Midlands (-46%).
