Local and regional authorities should be a core part of European governance, and not just a partner in the future, the mayor of German city, Stuttgart, has proclaimed.
The comments were made at the 60th anniversary of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) in Geneva, Switzerland. Wolfgang Schuster, president of CEMR and Stuttgart mayor, said: ‘Our associations must be considered as the best relay of European policy on the ground.'
