The DCLG has launched a consultation on shifting the date of 2014's local elections by three weeks from 1 May to 22 May, a potential change sparked by the timing of spring elections to the European Parliament.

Councils and political parties have until 13 May to respond with comments on proposals for preventing two sets of elections from taking place within three weeks of each other.
