The groceries market could condemn local shops to oblivion, the Campaign to Protect Rural England has warned. The long-awaited report concluding the Competition Commission inquiry into the big retail giants is set to be released this week. But Graeme Willis, local food campaigner at CPRE, said: βTo prevent market domination, the commission is expected to propose a local competition test. But this won't stem supermarket expansion and the erosion of the character and vitality of our town centres.'
