Redbridge LBC has become the first London borough to approve a community infrastructure levy (CIL), which will come into force in January 2012.

Redbridge LBC has become the first London borough to approve a community infrastructure levy (CIL), which will come into force in January 2012.

The council will charge a flat rate of £70 per square metre on all new, qualifying developments in the borough. The levy will be imposed at the time planning permission is granted and will normally be paid when building work starts.
