London Councils has taken on John O'Brien as its new chief executive. Mr O'Brien, one of the main architects of the local government White Paper, is currently on secondment from the DCLG to the Local Government Association. Chairman of London Council, Merrick Cockell, welcomed the appointment and said: ‘he has the highest reputation and joins us with a wealth of experience gained from an impressive career in local and central government.' Mr O'Brien will replace current chief executive, Martin Pilgrim, when he retires in the spring after almost 10 years in post.
