The former deputy mayor of London, Ian Clement, has been charged with fraud, in relation to his alleged misuse of expenses. Scotland Yard has confirmed Mr Clement has been charged with five offences under the Fraud Act, and was due to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on 8 September. A statement issued by his lawyer said: ‘Mr Clement has co-operated fully with the investigation, which relates to five meal expense claims, which have a total value of £227. It is a matter of regret that political expediency appears to be present.'
