The Government has vowed to ‘reform the power' of council leaders as part of plans to lift the aspirations of Britain's least ambitious children. Cabinet Office minister, Liam Byrne, proposed school buildings to offer ‘cradle-to-grave' education, health, retraining and parenting skills. Mr Byrne said: ‘The next stage of public service reform in 2009 is going to set out three big ideas – how we reform the power of frontline leaders to put services together in a different way to change the communities around them.' The report also advocates a new breed of public sector worker known as ‘lead professionals', required to generate community power. For more information see the Cabinet Office website.
