Lord Bew has been appointed by the prime minister as the chair of the Committee on Standards in Public Life – the quango dedicated to upholding conduct of those holding public office and the ethical standards of public service delivery.

A political academic from Queen's University Belfast, Paul Bew, who replaced Sir Christopher Kelly, served as an historical adviser to the Bloody Sunday Inquiry.
