As Neil Sedaka once sang: ‘breaking up is hard to do' so spare a thought for the residents of Yarm who voted last week to leave Teesside and join North Yorkshire instead.

A poll organised by Yarm Town Council saw 89% of local voters opt for moving the town from the borough of Stockton in Teesside to Hambleton BC, which is in North Yorkshire.
