Council chiefs have welcomed government plans to tackle aggressive bailiffs, amid record numbers of residents raising fears over their council tax debts.

From next year, laws will be introduced to ban bailiffs from entering homes at night or where only children are present, and from using any physical contact when dealing with debtors.
