Rumours that Manchester's long-awaited super casino is about to be axed have been downplayed by the Government and the city council. It was reported last week that the controversial plans had been dropped,, after the Government wrote to Scottish and Welsh ministers about plans to create the new casinos. A Manchester City Council spokesman said ‘discussions are still going on' with ministers, and no final decision had been made. A spokesman for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport said it was still looking into whether deprived areas such as parts of Manchester would be best served by other forms of regeneration.
