The Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority has announced a series of contracts to use landfill sites until 2013. The contracts are with Biffa, Veolia, Viridor Waste Management and the Waste Recycling Group, for their respective sites. ‘We must arrange the safe disposal of 1.4m tonnes of municipal waste generated every year, while minimising environmental impact,' said authority chairman, Cllr Neil Swannick.
