Mandarins prepare to join public pension fight

The likelihood of co-ordinated trade union strikes over public pensions has intensified, following warnings that Whitehall’s most senior staff body would join rank-and-file staff in walkouts.

The FDA trade union, which represents mandarins and other senior personnel, said that while ‘the overwhelming majority' of public sector unions wanted to negotiate with ministers over proposed reforms to public pension systems, it would be prepared to ballot its members over strikes.
