Martyn's Law gets set for 2027

New Martyn’s Law guidance requires councils to assess venues, strengthen preparedness, train staff and prepare for spring 2027 enforcement. Nathan Emmerich explains.

The Home Office recently published its section 27 statutory guidance for the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 – informally known as Martyn's Law, after Martyn Hett, one of the 22 people killed in the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing attack.

The guidance explains which premises and events will be in scope, what the legal duties require, the Security Industry Authority (SIA) regulator's role and the compliance and enforcement framework.
