Councils were this week accused of implementing ‘massive hikes' in car parking charges since the 2008 recession.
Each year, local authorities pull in around £1.4bn from parking services, yet in the years 2008 to 2010, councils increased charges to raise an extra £184m more than in 2007, new data obtained by the Co-operative Motor Group shows.
