Liverpool City Council leader, Joe Anderson, has dismissed rumours the Liverpool Labour group plans to shift to a mayoral model, but ‘sneak it past the electorate' without a referendum.

Liverpool Liberal Democrat councillor, Richard Kemp, wrote to the leader last week for clarity. Cllr Kemp claims he was told there are no plans to use existing legislation to rush through a directly-elected mayor.
