Leicester City Council's new directly-elected mayor, Sir Peter Soulsby, has announced plans to scrap the post of chief executive at the council.

The mayor, elected earlier this month, wants to get rid of the post in a bid to cut costs and as he feels there is a ‘responsibilities overlap' with his own role.
