Mayors and council leaders to take on police and crime commissioner functions

Police and crime commissioner (PCC) functions will be transferred to strategic authority mayors or council leaders from 2028, policing minister Sarah Jones has announced.

Police and crime commissioner (PCC) functions will be transferred to strategic authority mayors or council leaders from 2028, policing minister Sarah Jones has announced.

Ministers said change was ‘needed to foster greater collaboration, further join up of local services, reduce the cost of politics and enhance accountability'.
