Government commissioner Tony McArdle is to replace Max Caller heading up the intervention team at Birmingham City Council.

The shift comes as Caller – the former chief executive of both Barnet and Hackney LBCs – retires as a commissioner. He was appointed by Michael Gove, the previous secretary of state, to turn round the failing authority in October 2023.
