A media campaign featuring Punch and Judy has helped Thanet DC rapidly increase council tax payment by direct debit. The poster and press campaign, driven by the council's media team, resulted in a 55% increase – up from 2,258 in 2006 to 3,494. The number of court summons for non-payment has dropped by 12%, and an additional £271,000 in revenue has been generated since the start of this financial year. The original target of the campaign was to generate an additional £20,000 in total.
