Membership manoeuvres

How are the groups representing councils positioning themselves to secure members as the pace of reorganisation increases? Paul Marinko reports.

While all councils facing local government reorganisation (LGR) will have one eye on the likely model to emerge and the other on the logistics of dismantling and reassembling every function, they are also probably sparing the odd glance for how they may be represented in a new look sector.

The obvious adversaries sparring in opposing corners are the District Councils' Network (DCN) and County Councils' Network (CCN). The names suggest both will have no special interest to represent should the Government achieve its stated aim of unitising the whole of English local government.
