Deputy prime minister, Nick Clegg has led the tributes to South Lakeland DC leader Cllr Brendan Jameson, who died unexpectedly on 18 March aged 66.
Mr Clegg said Cllr Jameson ‘was always a true fighter on behalf of his community, making sure they were heard by Government'. First elected as a councillor in 1999, Cllr Jameson was appointed leader of the council in 2006 and in 2009 was also elected onto Cumbria CC. South Lakeland chief executive, Lawrence Conway, said: ‘His lasting legacy will be the opportunities he personally recognised and seized upon, and through his self-determination, made them a reality.'
