The LGA has blasted claims by the Taxpayer's Alliance that millions of pounds are being wasted on middle management pay. The organisation claimed there were now 12,600 local council officials who earned more than MPs, who were paid an annual salary of £60,277. LGA deputy chief executive, John Ransford, said the ‘taxpayer gets very good value for money' when private sector salaries are compared. ‘The people who earn these salaries are responsible for multimillion-pound budgets in highly-complex organisations,' he said.
