Middlesbrough has opted for ‘the home side' with its choice of new chief executive. Ian Parker has been appointed as head of Middlesbrough Council after Jan Richmond stepped down after five years in the post. Mr Parker joined the council as director of environment in 2006, after a spell at Hartlepool Council. He said: ‘I am particularly excited about the prospect of being chief executive in my home town.' Middlesbrough's mayor, Ray Mallon, welcomed the appointment. He said: ‘These are tough times, both at home and abroad, and an authority such as Middlesbrough needs a safe and strong pair of hands to guide it through them. But these are also exciting and challenging times in a town which is making major progress, but still has a long way to go.' Elsewhere, South Kesteven DC's chief executive, Duncan Kerr, is leaving the council after five years in the role. He has considered a range of options and has yet to confirm his next move. He said: ‘It has been a privilege to play such a pivotal role in the development of our communities. I would like to place on record my thanks and appreciation for the hard work of all the staff.' Beverly Agass has been appointed to the role of interim chief executive.
