One of local government's largest trade unions has lashed out at Danny Alexander, accusing the chief secretary to the Treasury of using misleading data to manipulate public opinion over controversial pension reforms.

Pensions' experts working for the trade union have disputed model examples of the reformed scheme issued by the Treasury alongside the minister's ‘enhanced offer' for future pensions – on the basis they are not ‘like for like' comparisons.
