The pace of policy announcements for local government is set to quicken over coming months. Communities secretary, Hazel Blears, has sent a letter to all staff setting out future priorities. One departmental source has also revealed she has told officials that she wants to see a new initiative each week in a bid to show that the pace of reform has not slackened. A spokesman said: ‘Ministers have made no secret of the fact that they want to use momentum from the Comprehensive Spending Review to get ahead.'
