Ministers have been urged to ‘rethink’ proposals to localise council tax benefit (CTB) amid fears local authority finances would be imperilled and vulnerable claimants have support withdrawn.

Ministers have been urged to ‘rethink' proposals to localise council tax benefit (CTB) amid fears local authority finances would be imperilled and vulnerable claimants have support withdrawn.

Under government proposals, each individual council would be expected to design and run a local scheme, enforcing a 10% reduction in funding given out while protecting certain groups such as pensioners from the impact.
