LocalGov's sister title,The MJ, this week launches its sixth Local Government Achievement Awards, with 15 categories, including new ones for diversity and energy efficiency. The highly sought-after awards recognise innovation and dedication among local authority service teams, and will be presented at a glittering gala ceremony at London's Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, on 25 June 2009. In her foreword to the awards brochure, appearing in The MJ on 23 October, communities and local government secretary, Hazel Blears, writes: ‘Whether it's improving vital public services, planning for the future, or giving leadership in tough times, there are thousands of stories of local authorities going the extra mile to deliver. It is important to acknowledge those successes, and celebrate the commitment and ingenuity of the hundreds of thousands of men and women who make them happen.
