The MJ this week launches its seventh Local Government Achievement Awards with 14 categories, including new ones for Total Place, democratic services, sustainable infrastructure, housing and regeneration, and environmental innovation. The much-acclaimed awards recognise innovation and achievement in local government across the UK, and the winners will be announced at a glittering gala ceremony at London's Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, on 24 June. In his foreword to the awards brochure, appearing later this month, communities and local government secretary, John Denham, says the awards ‘are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate some of the unsung heroes within councils.' The closing date for entries is 22 January 2010.
