Chief executives Rochdale BC has appointed Burnley BC chief executive Steve Rumbelow as its new chief executive. Mr Rumbelow has been chief executive at Burnley since July 2006. He was previously a strategic director for Manchester City Council, with responsibility for housing strategy and regeneration. He has worked in local government for 30 years. Rochdale leader, Councillor Richard Farnell, said: ‘It is a major coup for Rochdale to secure the appointment of Steve Rumbelow. He is one of the country's most successful and dynamic chief executives. He has a wealth of experience in other chief executive and leading local government posts in the North West. Rochdale's priority is bringing new businesses and jobs to the borough and Steve is recognised as one of the most experienced regeneration experts in the region. He has led the transformation of Burnley which was recently named as the Most Enterprising Place in the UK. ‘He will be a great asset to the Council at a time when we have to substantially reduce costs, eliminate waste and drive up service standards. We are really lucky to have landed one of the brightest stars in local government.' Mr Rumbelow said: ‘I'm very much looking forward to working in Rochdale. Of course, I've been looking hard at the current challenges and issues ahead for the council and all our partner organisations. But what I've really been struck by is the commitment of councillors, officers and people right across the borough to do the best for residents, and develop new opportunities and prospects.' Former Bristol City Council chief executive Jan Ormondroyd has been selected as interim chief executive of Rotherham MBC. Ms Ormondroyd will take up the post, fixed at a £160,000 salary, from November after a consultation process that involved support from the Local Government Association to find an appropriate candidate capable of guiding the beleaguered authority through some crunch challenges. Ms Ormondroyd was chosen for her extensive experience gleaned from leading local government roles at Bristol City Council and Suffolk Coastal DC and her stint as deputy chief executive for Hull City Council. The appointment of Ms Ormondroyd comes after former chief Martin Kimber decided to stand down by the end of the year following the ongoing political fallout from Professor Alexis Jay's independent report into child sexual exploitation in Rotherham. Leaders The leader of the Conservative-run Fylde Council has resigned ahead of next year's local council elections. David Eaves (pictured), who has led the council since 2010, said he wants a young successor to get experience before the May poll. ‘I will be 69 by the next election and it is the right time to go,' said Mr Eaves who represents Ansdell ward. His deputy Sue Fazackerley takes over as interim leader until 1 December. A leader has been appointed to South Oxfordshire DC to succeed Ann Ducker MBE, who died in September. At a recent meeting of the council the Conservative councillor for Sandford, John Cotton (pictured), was elected until its next annual meeting in May 2015. Cllr Ducker, who was awarded an MBE in 2010 for her services to local government, had served on the council for 32 years.
